About
Ceramic artist Iona Singleton makes work that investigates creative historical figures whose impact – positive or negative – still resonates today. People who have forged their own paths, with deeply considered and fiercely opinionated views on how art or craft should be made. They are the focus of contemporary discourse or relevant to current debates.
Researching someone’s life, thoughts and impact, while creating something that comments on this in clay facilitates a kind of thinking through making, as if through the creation of this physical object the individual themself becomes more tangible.
Iona’s London-based practice is a continuous exploration of ways to combine tools, machines and digital technology with hands-on making, material agency and surprise.
Graduating from Central Saint Martins’ BA Ceramic Design in 2026, Iona has exhibited at Salone Satellite 2026, Milan; William Morris Gallery; Central Saint Martins Library and SafeHouse Peckham.
Iona volunteers with Clayground Collective, and has also designed and led a clay workshop for teens for Lewisham Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services.
